NEW PROGRAM: Cambridge Hometown Hockey League

We are pleased to announce that next season we are creating a new CYH in-town “Cambridge Hometown Hockey League” for players ages 6-11. In combination with our instructional programs, the CHHL will provide a competitive and instructional hockey experience based entirely in Cambridge.  We believe this option will provide a “just-right” hockey experience for many of our younger players who are looking for more than our introductory instructional programs but who may not be ready to make the commitment to a full travel team schedule.  Additionally, this program will be offered at a reduced cost compared to our regular traveling programs.

We are having a Town Hall meeting to discuss this new program on Tuesday April 5th, 2016 @ 7:00 PM at Simoni. If you have questions in advance, please send them to

If this program sounds appealing to you, please let us know ASAP by sending an email to  .

Like many other hockey programs, Cambridge Youth Hockey is expanding its in-house league to provide more options for our players.

This change is one we’ve discussed for some time and addresses the following challenges with the existing structure:

  • Mite Bs play very early on Sundays and frequently do not have appropriate competition in the Stoneham league.
  • Many players at the Mite and Squirt age would enjoy and benefit from additional cross-ice experiences.
  • Finally, there are always a handful of players who wish to play hockey but aren’t able to commit to the volume of practices and games in the travel team program.

The in-house league will run from late October/early November until the first week of April and have practice/game time on Saturdays (cross-ice games) but will also include one weekday evening practice (6 or 7PM) throughout the season and allow for participation in our Skills program (another evening practice @6PM) which runs about 10 weeks from Dec-Feb.  All practices and games will be at Simoni, with the exception of an occasional weekend game with another local program's in-house group.

At the Mite age-group we will still have one travel team playing in the Valley league but this in-house program will replace what we currently provide for our Mite B team. For SQ age players we will still place players on travel teams if they are ready for that level of commitment but feel we may have had some players in the past who would have preferred less of a time commitment.

This is a great option for your player if:

  • Your child would like to play competitively but with less of a time commitment than travel teams
  • Your child would like to play competitively but would like more experience learning the game in cross-ice format
  • Your child has played in CYH in the past and wasn’t able to attend a significant portion of games and practices

We believe that this option may be a better hockey experience for many kids in this age group and their families.  If your child is somewhere between 6 and 11 years old and you have previously done Mites, Squirts, IH or LPG and feel this would be something you are interested in, or if you have signed up for the travel program but think this in-house option would be a better fit, please let us know with an email including your child's name and subject "CHHL" sent to registrar@cambridgeyouthhockey.org.  And finally, please pass this along to other people who you think may be interested.

CYH Highlighted on NESN Bruins Academy

CYH players, Bruins Alumni Tommy Songin and Blades the Bear

The Cambridge Youth Hockey Program was highlighted in the latest episode of The Bruins Academy. CYH President, Jon Come and CYH Squirt A Coach, John Fulginiti discussed the history and culture of Cambridge Hockey's organization.  Two Squirt players, Derek DeJon and Whit Russell shared their insight as players in this episode.

In early March, NESN's Bruins Academy hosted a skills clinic for several of our teams, run by Bruins Alumni Tommy Songin and assisted by Bruins mascot, Blades the Bear. Members of Delta Dental educated our players on proper mouth guard fittings and handed each player a new mouth guard.
