VOLUNTEERING WITH CYH

Volunteering with Cambridge Youth Hockey directly supports the participation of youth in the many programs offered by the organization. CYH volunteers register players, coach, engage in community outreach, encourage new skaters, and help the organization to meet the needs of players and their families in innumerable ways. Cambridge Youth Hockey partners with other programs in the City of Cambridge, and CYH is committed to working as a part of the community in support of initiatives that benefit youth. Many areas in which we generally need assistance are listed below, but please feel free to suggest other ways in which you would like to help. You can volunteer for any amount of time that fits your schedule. Please also note the new opportunity to volunteer this fall in support of a program that benefits at-risk youth.

New Volunteer Opportunity: CYH Ice
Beginning in the 2010-2011 season, Cambridge Youth Hockey will run a new community outreach program in collaboration with several youth centers in Cambridge. Children enrolled in the programs at the youth centers will have the opportunity to participate in an after school hockey program sponsored by a grant that Cambridge Youth Hockey received from Mass Hockey. The aim of the program is to encourage the retention of at-risk youth in high quality after school programming by helping the centers provide an enriching experience to students ages 9 through 13. In addition, the youth centers can enhance the learning of students by creating links between hockey instruction and other content areas in their curriculum. The initial program will run for ten weeks beginning in mid October. We are looking for volunteers to assist in the running of this program both on and off the ice. The overall success of the program depends on having enough volunteers on hand to help get everyone equipped and on the ice. We are very excited about the program, as we feel that Cambridge Youth Hockey as a sports organization is in a unique position to support the expansion of opportunities for at-risk
youth in the community.
